In detection training dogs are trained to alert, by barking, pointing, pawing, or sitting when detecting certain scents. They can be trained to detect drugs, agricultural products, gunpowder, bomb materials, and arson materials. In order to do this type of training you have to have a dog that has a strong desire to"hunt". They have to be confident to work in many different surroundings, because they may have to search through buildings, cars, and luggage. Unstable footing must not be a issue for the dog, for they may be required to climb, or fit into small areas. We require the dog be evaluated before starting any type of detection training.
